Classless & level-less True20

Personally I’m not very fond of levels and classes. This is how I propose to do away with both in the true20 system.

  • Remove all classes
  • Remove the level system
  • All feats are “general”
  • All characters receive 4–6 “experience points” per game session.
  • Experience points may be
    1. saved for future use,
    2. used to buy feats (costs 1–4 points per feat) or
    3. used to increase the skill-level of a skill.
  • The cost (in experience points) of increasing the skill-level of a skill is equal to the new desired skill-level.
  • A skill may only be increased by one skill-level per game session.
  • Per game session, a character may only buy one new feat.
  • Each skill has a skill rank. Skill ranks start at 1 but there’s no upper limit, normal people has skill rankings ranging from 1 to 8, very experienced characters may have skill ranks above 10. Only a magnificent few will have skill rankings near or above 20.
  • There are also “feats”; these are “narrow” skills, various types of tricks, or special talents that a character may learn under his adventuring career. A feat costs from 1 to 4 experience points to buy.
